We use them every day without realizing the confusion it may have on people where English is their second language. It is UP to you to buckle DOWN and choose a more descriptive word or phrase in order to express yourself properly.

The Internet has created a different world

We are easily able to translate our communication into the native tongue of the people from other countries in our daily discourse. There are many tools available for free on the Internet to enable a viable dialog with someone of another culture in a language they would understand.

The confusion we create however, is sometimes due to the idioms and catch phrases we grew up with and take for granted that others may not understand.

 

Recognize when a word is used

Pay attention to the adirectional words and when they are used.

Find an synonym and learn it

Keep a blank page in a word processor open to enable a quick search for a synonym or have a tab open in your browser to thesaurus.com.

Apply the new word in its place

Make a point of learning a new word or phrase that gives a better explanation of what you are saying.
